Orugano Safaris (โweโ, โusโ or โourโ) operates oruganosafaris.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect through this website and related enquiries, why we use it, when we share it, how long we keep it, and the choices and rights available to you.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide
When you contact us through a website form, email, telephone or WhatsApp, you may provide your name, email address, telephone number, travel dates, group size, safari interests, accommodation preferences and any other information you choose to include in your message. If you proceed with a booking, we may request additional information that is reasonably necessary to arrange the services you have requested.
Information collected automatically
When you visit the website, our hosting systems and security tools may process technical information such as your IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages visited, and the date and time of a request. We also use Google Analytics 4 as described below.
2. How We Use Information
- To respond to enquiries and communicate about safari planning, quotations, itineraries, permits, accommodation and transport.
- To take steps at your request before a booking and to provide services covered by a confirmed booking.
- To operate, secure, troubleshoot and improve the website and enquiry process.
- To maintain appropriate business records, prevent fraud, resolve disputes and comply with applicable legal, tax, accounting and regulatory duties.
- To measure website use through Google Analytics where permitted by your consent choices.
Depending on the circumstances, we process information with your consent, to respond to your request, to perform a contract, for legitimate business and security purposes, or to comply with a legal obligation. We do not sell your personal information.
3. Cookies and Consent Choices
Cookies are small text files stored by your browser. On your first visit, our consent banner lets you accept all optional cookies, reject them, or open Preferences and choose which categories to allow. Essential cookies remain active because they are required to remember your choice and operate the consent controls.
Optional analytics storage is denied by default. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time by selecting the floating Cookie Preferences button on the website. Withdrawing consent affects future analytics storage; you may also clear existing cookies using your browser settings.
| Cookie | Category | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|---|
wpconsent_preferences | Essential | Remembers your consent choices. | 30 days |
_ga | Statistics | Used by Google Analytics to distinguish visitors. | Up to 2 years |
_ga_8ND0D0W87Y | Statistics | Used by Google Analytics to maintain session information. | Up to 2 years |
Browser restrictions may shorten the lifetime of some cookies. Blocking or deleting essential cookies may cause the consent banner to reappear or prevent preferences from being remembered.
4. Google Analytics 4 and Consent Mode
We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), measurement ID G-8ND0D0W87Y, to understand how visitors find and use the websiteโfor example, pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser information, referrer information and interactions with site content. We use this information to improve the website and understand which content contributes to safari enquiries.
GA4 analytics cookies are used only when you allow Statistics cookies. If analytics storage is denied, GA4 does not read or write analytics cookies. Because the site uses Google Consent Mode, Google may still receive limited cookieless signals used for aggregated measurement and modelling. Google states that these signals may include technical information such as user agent, screen resolution and IP address, but that Google Analytics does not log or store the IP address and does not use cookieless signals to identify individual visitors. Advertising storage, advertising user data and advertising personalisation are denied by default, and ads data redaction is enabled.
For more information, see Googleโs Consent Mode reference, GA4 cookie information and Privacy Policy.
5. Sharing and International Processing
We share personal information only when reasonably necessary. Depending on your request or booking, recipients may include accommodation providers, transport providers, guides, park or permit authorities, payment providers and other suppliers directly involved in delivering your safari. We may also use website hosting, email, security, analytics and other technology providers that process information on our behalf.
Some providers, including Google, may process information outside Uganda. Safari arrangements may also require information to be shared with suppliers or authorities in another destination country. Where applicable, we rely on your request or consent, contractual necessity, legal obligations and appropriate safeguards for such processing.
We may disclose information where required by law, a competent authority or legal process, or where reasonably necessary to protect visitors, our business or others from fraud, security threats or unlawful activity.
6. Data Retention
We keep enquiry, correspondence and booking information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. The period depends on whether an enquiry results in a booking, whether we need the information to provide support or resolve a dispute, and any applicable accounting, tax, contractual or legal record-keeping requirement. When information is no longer required, we delete, destroy or de-identify it where reasonably practicable.
The consent-preference cookie lasts 30 days. GA4 cookies may last up to 2 years unless you withdraw consent or clear them sooner. Our current GA4 property settings retain event-level data for 2 months and user-level data for 14 months. These settings do not necessarily remove aggregated reports that no longer identify a particular user.
7. Security
We use reasonable administrative and technical measures intended to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, alteration or disclosure. No website, email service or internet transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure, so please avoid sending unnecessary sensitive information through a general enquiry form.
8. Your Privacy Rights
Subject to applicable law and appropriate identity verification, you may ask us to:
- Confirm whether we hold personal information about you and provide access to it.
- Correct or update inaccurate, incomplete, outdated or misleading information.
- Delete or destroy information that is excessive, unlawfully obtained or no longer required, unless we have a lawful reason to retain it.
- Stop processing that is likely to cause unwarranted substantial damage or distress.
- Stop using your information for direct marketing.
- Withdraw consent for optional cookies and other consent-based processing.
To exercise a right, email info@oruganosafaris.com and describe your request. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify that the request relates to you. You may also lodge a complaint with Ugandaโs Personal Data Protection Office.
9. Childrenโs Information
The website is not directed at children. If information about a traveller under 18 is required for a family booking, it should be provided by or with the involvement of a parent or legal guardian and limited to what is necessary for the requested travel service.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy when our services, website tools or legal obligations change. The โLast updatedโ date at the top shows when the latest version took effect.
