Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1 — Arrival in Kigali
Your driver-guide meets you at Kigali International Airport and transfers you to your hotel. Depending on arrival time, tour Kigali and the Kigali Genocide Memorial; late arrivals may tour next morning.
In the evening your driver-guide briefs you on the border crossing; have your passport ready.

Day 2 — Kigali to Bwindi, Nkuringo Sector
A long travel day. Cross into Uganda; your driver-guide manages formalities. Keep documents ready and expect delays.
From the border the road climbs and falls through the Kigezi hills to the Nkuringo sector on the southern edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You arrive in the late afternoon, in time to settle in before tomorrow's briefing.

Day 3 — Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi
After an early breakfast you walk to the Nkuringo briefing point, where Uganda Wildlife Authority rangers brief your group on the family, forest etiquette and safety. Trackers locate the gorillas ahead of you and you hike in to meet them; the terrain is steep and humid, and the trek length varies with the family's location. You then spend one hour with the family.
Orugano Bwindi Lodge is approximately 10 to 15 minutes' walk from the briefing point, so the morning starts on foot.

Day 4 — Golden Monkeys and Lake Mutanda
The morning is for golden monkey tracking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, on bamboo-covered slopes below the Virunga volcanoes. The altitude is moderate but the ground is steep in places; the permit is a separate, lower cost, confirmed when we quote.
After lunch the pace slows: canoeing on Lake Mutanda and a cultural visit fill the afternoon, a break between two walking-heavy days. Rest and repack before the transfer north.

Day 5 — Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
You leave the highlands and descend to the Rift Valley, entering Queen Elizabeth National Park for a late afternoon game drive: a first look at the open plains, with elephants, buffalo, Uganda kob and, with luck, lions. Sightings are never guaranteed.
The descent involves winding roads and a full day in the vehicle; arrive in time for dinner.

Day 6 — Game Drive and Kazinga Channel Cruise
A full day in Queen Elizabeth National Park: morning game drive on the plains, then an afternoon Kazinga Channel boat cruise between Lakes Edward and George.
The shoreline attracts hippos, crocodiles, elephants and birds, though sightings vary. The boat ride also gives you time to watch the banks and photograph the river setting.

Day 7 — Transfer to Kibale and Bigodi Wetland Walk
You continue north to Kibale National Park, arriving in the afternoon; once settled in, a guided walk follows in Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, a community-run project on the forest edge.
The walk follows paths through papyrus and swamp forest; bring sturdy footwear for the uneven, sometimes damp ground.

Day 8 — Chimpanzee Tracking in Kibale
After an early briefing, track a habituated chimpanzee group in Kibale Forest with a Uganda Wildlife Authority guide. The standard foreign non-resident permit is US$250 per person. We confirm the applicable tariff for your trekking date when we prepare your quotation. Once located, spend one hour with the chimpanzees; sightings are never guaranteed. Wear boots for the humid, uneven ground.
The afternoon is at leisure after the early start.

Day 9 — Transfer to Murchison Falls
A long transfer to Murchison Falls National Park in north-western Uganda, with no fixed activities; the road crosses a lot of country, from farmland and tea hills to the Nile delta, arriving in the late afternoon.
There are stops for lunch and photographs, but this is chiefly a travel day: use it to rest ahead of tomorrow's game drive and cruise.

Day 10 — Murchison Falls Game Drive and Nile Cruise

Day 13 — Full Day in the Masai Mara

Between July and October, if the Great Migration has reached the Mara, the plains can hold large herds of wildebeest and zebra; its timing varies from year to year.

Day 14 — Second Full Day in the Masai Mara

Gorilla Trekking Permits
Gorilla trekking happens once on this 21 day East Africa safari, in the Nkuringo sector of Bwindi on Day 3. The standard foreign non-resident permit is US$800 per person, a published government tariff issued for a specific date and sector.
Permits are date- and sector-specific. Nkuringo has four habituated families, so the lodge must match the permit. We check availability first, agree the sector, then plan accommodation and transport. Permit changes are not automatic; UWA rules and availability apply.
The separate, higher-rate habituation experience is based at Nyabaremura, Rubuguli, roughly halfway between Rushaga and Nkuringo; it is not part of this itinerary.

Visas, Borders and Internal Flights
The East Africa Tourist Visa covers Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda, not Tanzania, which issues its own visa. Rwanda is first point of entry and must issue it. Confirm requirements for your nationality; we do not provide immigration advice.
The Rwanda to Uganda border crossing on Day 2 is straightforward but slow: keep documents to hand while your driver-guide manages formalities.
Two internal flights connect Entebbe to the Masai Mara on Day 12 and the Masai Mara to the Serengeti on Day 15; routings and timings are confirmed in the quotation. Light aircraft limits are strict; pack a soft-sided bag.
Kilimanjaro International Airport runs a standard international departure process, so allow time on Day 21.
